You don't learn anything from songs you don't write.
Almost every day, there's a new song that shoves me out of my comfort zone and into the world of possibility. It sounds counterintuitive, but for me, at least, breaking through comfort zones has made me happier.
It doesn't take any exceptional talent or training to do this - just enough courage to start writing songs and seeing them through to the end. All it takes is one brave move forward - because if you never try, you'll never know what you're capable of.
Songwriting can be a fun and creative activity that allows you to explore your emotions and connect with other people. It can also be a way of expressing yourself and sharing your ideas with the world.
Write about things that inspire you.
Write about personal experiences and feelings or something that you observed. When you're inspired, it's easier to come up with lyrics and melodies. And the easiest way to get inspired is to start writing!
Use a variety of songwriting techniques.
You don't have to write the same way every time - so experiment with different songwriting processes, genres, instruments, and styles. The key is finding something that excites you enough to keep writing music.
Experiment with different sounds and styles.
If you always write the same kind of song in the same style, this might be a little intimidating at first. But it can open up your creativity like nothing else!
Collaborate with other musicians.
Some of your favorite songs might have been written collaboratively, and you can learn a lot from collaborating too! It doesn't matter whether you're playing an instrument or singing - as long as you bring something unique and cool to the song, together you can create great music!
Keep writing, even when you don't feel inspired.
The most important thing is to keep writing, even if you don't feel particularly inspired. Of course, it's always better to be inspired than uninspired - but if inspiration doesn't come knocking on your door, just start writing anyway. Try to see the inspiration in everything you write, even if none of it sounds particularly inspired!
You don't have to experience writer's block or a crippling inner critic. You can write more songs by following the advice above. But the most important thing is to keep writing, even when you don't feel inspired.
